A National Slavery Museum is planned to be built in Amsterdam and is expected to open its doors in 2030. As the plans develop, questions are emerging about whose perspectives will be included and which historical narratives will receive emphasis. The Netherlands played a key role in slave-trading in the Caribbean and in Asie. Different viewpoints and priorities are shaping an ongoing conversation around key issues: What story should the museum convey, and who is its intended audience?
